What is Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is a special shipping program offered by the internet retailer Amazon.com. It's actually pretty simple: You pay Amazon an annual fee of $79.99, and you get unlimited free 2-day shipping on any Amazon order and $2.99 upgrades to next day shipping. Also, all new Amazon Prime members are offered a free trial, allowing them to experience the convenience of shopping with Amazon Prime benefits for an entire month at no charge.

Now, whether this is a good deal depends on how much you order from Amazon.com, but with shipping rates continuing to rise, it doesn't take much to at least break even. Let's take a look at a couple quick examples to see how this might break down.

If you were to buy this Canon Pixma MP470 Photo All-In-One Inkjet Printer, it would cost you around $28 to have it shipped via 2-day air. That's 35% of the price of Amazon Prime right there. So, if you made two more purchases that cost that much to ship, you'd already have saved around $4.

If you take a smaller item, such as the best-selling, The Digital Photography Book, upgrading to 2-day shipping would cost you about $13. At that rate, it would take about six similar orders to break even.

The DeGeeked Crew has been an Amazon Prime member for almost a year, and we can tell you that we've saved a ton of money by signing up. And with the holiday shopping season coming around, it's the perfect time to take advantage of this deal. We highly recommend it.
