Can I replace the battery in my iPod?

iPods get old, and the battery is often the first part that goes sour. Your next step will depend on how old your iPod is.

If your iPod is less than a year old, it is likely still under warrenty, and you should head to your closest Apple store or visit Apple's battery FAQ.

If your iPod is no longer under warranty, Apple will still replace the battery, but they will charge you  to do so. There are a number of third parties who sell the supplies to change out the battery, and these sites often charge less than Apple does to make the swap. Sites like iPod Juice and iPod Battery offer replacements for most models.

All that said, if your iPod is more than a few years old, it will likely be more cost effective to spend the extra $$ to buy a new one. A brand new iPod Nano, for example, can be had for under $150 and will offer you a color screen and the ability to watch movies and videos, both things we doubt your current iPod has if you're thinking about replacing it.
