What’s the difference between an iPod and an MP3 player?
A DeGeeked visitor recently sent us this question, and we imagine this is something many people have asked themselves. The answer is that there is no real difference between an MP3 player and an iPod. In fact, an iPod is an MP3 player. "MP3 player" is the generic term, and "iPod" is the brand name of an MP3 player made by Apple.
The thing is, the iPod has become so popular that people sometimes use the brand name to mean MP3 players in general. Sort of like people sometimes call all jeans, "Levis," or "Coke" is sometimes used to refer to soda in general.
The iPod has become this popular for a good reason: it is simply the best. Among Amazon's top ten MP3 players, the iPod (or one of its variations) occupies nine of those spots. If you're in the market for an MP3 player, there is no better option. Get an iPod.
