Do I need Photoshop to edit my digital photographs?

The short answer is no. In fact, the long answer is no as well, but if you need more, keep on reading....

Think of Adobe Photoshop as the Hummer of photo editing software. Yeah, it can drive over just about anything, but for going out to get the milk and other everyday activities it is pretty impractical. For 90% of computer users, Photoshop is WAY more than your will ever need. While the possibilities with Photoshop are limitless, it is not a program we would recommend trying to teach yourself.

The other issue with Photoshop is the price. It is likely that the program itself costs as much or more than your computer. All that said, with the proper training, Photoshop can do amazing things.

The good news is that a Adobe has developed a slimmed down, and cheaper, version called Photoshop Elements. Elements makes use of the most popular tools from the full version of Photoshop without all the complicated stuff you'd never use anyway and at a fraction (like, 1/10th) the price. Stick with Photoshop Elements if you're not professional graphic designer or photographer.
