I spilled coffee/soda/beer/water on my keyboard - what should I do now?
Unfortunately, spilling liquid on a keyboard is a common problem, as many people enjoy their favorite beverage while in front of their computers. If you spill liquid on your keyboard, turn your computer off immediately. Disconnect and turn the keyboard over to let the liquid drain off, preferably into a sink, towel, or trash can. Blot any remaining liquid with a cloth or paper towel. Let your keyboard air-dry upside down for at least a day.
If you spilled only water, the keyboard will probably work after drying out. If you spilled coffee or a liquid containing sugar or some other sticky substance, your keyboard may not work even when dry. If this is the case, you can try to disassemble the keyboard by removing the screws on the back. Use rubbing alcohol and a cloth to carefully clean any residue and let the alcohol evaporate before reassembling.
If the keyboard still does not work, replace it with an ergonomically designed keyboard such as the Microsoft Comfort Keyboard 2000. Your wrists will thank us later.
