Is there an alternative to PowerPoint?
Yes, there are a few alternatives to Microsoft PowerPoint, and two of them are free!
Your first option is called Impress, and is available as part of the suite of tools in OpenOffice, the completely free Microsoft Office suite replacement. OpenOffice is available for Macs and Windows.
If you own a Mac, another alternative to Powerpoint available to you is Keynote. Keynote is part of the iWork suite made by Apple, which also contains Pages (to replace Word) and Numbers (to replace Excel). You may have seen Keynote without even knowing it; it's what Al Gore uses in his film, An Inconvenient Truth. If it's good enough for the fomer Vice President of the United States...
Your third option, the other free one, is a web-based tool by Google called Google Presentations. Google Presentations doesn't offer the full range of functionality and speed of a normal desktop application, but the convenience of always having your presentation available where you can access the internet is a nice feature the others cannot offer.
