DeGeeked recommends going with a web-based email service. We don't recommend using your ISP-based email address. In short, web-based email addresses allow you access your email anywhere you can get on the internet regardless of whether you have your own computer with you or not.
Yahoo and Microsoft offer free, web-based email addresses, but Gmail by Google is a DGpick by a mile. It is easy to use, fast, very reliable, and offers more storage that you will ever need. (No more "Your email inbox is full" messages.) You will also be able use all of Google's services from any computer with web access, including Calendar, Docs, and countless others.
