Top 10 Digital Photography Books
With top quality digital cameras for under $200 widely available pretty much everybody you know probably has one. That's a good thing. What's not so good is some of the photos that come from these cameras. And this has nothing to do with the cameras themselves. The truth is, whether you have a fancy DSLR or a simple point-and-shoot, the biggest factor in getting top notch photos from your digital camera is behind the lens. (Psst. We mean you.)
The following list of books will get you on your way to improving your photographs by building your knowledge about photography technique, technology, and composition.
- The Digital Photography Book
- Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera
- The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2
- The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos
- Understanding Shutter Speed: Creative Action and Low-Light Photography Beyond 1/125 Second
- The Moment It Clicks: Photography secrets from one of the world's top shooters (Voices That Matter)
- Light: Science and Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting
- The Betterphoto Guide to Digital Photography
- Learning to See Creatively: Design, Color & Composition in Photography
- Digital SLR Cameras & Photography For Dummies
While we recommend all of these books, the eleventh book we might recommend is the one that came with your camera and has "Owner's Manual" written on it.

Thank you for the list!! I’m just starting down this road into serious ammature photography after 15 years of casual play. I picked up a bunch of books the other day, and might pick up some more now.
Are you *sure* I have to read that ... that… owner’s manual O.o ? (j/k)
All the best,

Thanks for the comment. I personally own a couple of these books, and they are really helpful. The “Digital Photography Books” (items #1 and #3 are a must-read for any photographer with a digital camera. We can’t recommend them enough.
BTW, they are two separate books. Volume 2 is not just an updated version of volume 1.
