What is Woot.com?
Woot.com, typically referred to as just, "Woot," is an online store that sells just one item each day. That's right, they list only one item for sale each day until it sells out. New items are posted each day at midnight US Central time, and there is no way to purchase the item from the previous day once it is replaced with a new one. It's an odd model, but it works; Woot is extremely popular.
The products at Woot are usually very competitively priced (and usually are pretty cool, too), so they often sellout very quickly. However, the DeGeeked Crew suggests doing a quick price comparison at Amazon or other online retailers before pressing the big "I want one" button at Woot, as you can sometimes find a better deal elsewhere.
Woot's offerings are normally somewhat techie in focus, such as an MP3 player or a laptop, but also run the gamut from a Dyson vacuum cleaner to a remote-controlled car. Part of the beauty of Woot is that you're never quite sure what they're going to offer next.
Woot sometimes starts a "Woot-off," which you'll know is happening by the presence of two flashing orange lights on the home page. As defined by Woot themselves, a Woot-off is "a short term frenzied mutation of our product posting procedure. In Woot-Off mode, a new product is launched immediately after the sellout of the previous deal." Woot-offs are not announced ahead of time and usually happen only once or twice a month.
Woot also has two other product-specific stores that run under the same one product per day concept: One, shirt.woot.com, features a new t-shirt everyday. Another, wine.woot.com, features, you guessed it, a new bottle of wine or other wine-related product each day.
